Medications & Memory with Dr. Elena

Medications & Memory with Dr. Elena

Medications often help maintain health and well-being, studies have repeatedly shown that many older adults suffer from medication problems.

As caregivers to an older person, the chances are they are taking a number of prescription medications.

Have you ever wondered if they are on the proper medications? Do you worry about how side effects and interactions may contribute to other health problems?

These are practical concerns to have. Although medications often help maintain health and well-being, studies have repeatedly shown that many older adults suffer from medication problems.

In this episode, I am joined, once again, by Dr. Elena. She and I discuss common medications prescribed to older adults and how we should evaluate them for effectiveness versus side effects. Many medicines have side effects that can cause memory issues, balance issues, many of the symptoms we commonly shrug off as normal aging. A thorough evaluation at least twice a year is ideal, allowing you to avoid potential problems.

This episode is a little shorter than others, so be sure to listen to the end, where Dr. Elena tells us how she has had success slowing dementia progression. It's a great story to end the episode.

MediCaid & You – All You Need to Know

MediCaid & You – All You Need to Know

Using a Medicaid professional can be the difference between success & failure when applying.

Medicaid is available under many circumstances, but the path to get there is filled with challenges. Did you know, there are services available to assist families through the Medicaid application and planning process.?

Why use one of these services? Knowing what documentation is required is needed is vast. Understanding what you can do and what you should do can be daunting if you're not a professional dealing with these cases daily.

Not all of us have the personality to handle this bureaucratic obstacle course. For these reasons and more, I am sharing with you the knowledge of a Medicaid Planning professional.

There is a big misconception that to qualify for Medicaid, you have to have no assets, or they will take all of your money. In most states, your assets cannot exceed $2,000. That's the scary part that everyone hears.

Thankfully, there are many gray areas when applying. Giving these factors consideration does play a part in the overall application. There are many ways to save assets, and that's why using a professional is essential.

Health Literacy With Tamvoes

Health Literacy With Tamvoes

Health literacy skills allow patients to control their well-being by making intelligent healthcare choices.

Do you have good health Literacy? Unless you're a trained medical professional, I feel confident that you've likely encountered challenges when dealing with the health care system. Communication with doctors and family while also dealing with your health struggles surely makes you wish for a better solution.

Understanding the medical situation you are in, whether as a patient or a caregiver, in addition to managing all the necessary paperwork, creates more work at a time when your focus needs to be elsewhere. Juggling all the information and communication surrounding a medical diagnosis can strain both your mental and physical health.

Becoming more health literate is essential but time-consuming. Health literacy skills allow patients to control their well-being by making intelligent healthcare choices, improving their communication with doctors, and giving them the information they need to advocate for themselves in a medical setting.

Fortunately, there is a solution, and we're talking about that today.

TAMVOES is a health management platform supporting the information of Individuals, Families, and their Professional Team. TAMVOES is a women-led startup with the goal to empower individuals with their health information, giving them the ability to make more informed health care decisions.

My Grandma Has Dementia – Helping Kids Understand

My Grandma Has Dementia – Helping Kids Understand

My Grandma Has Dementia book has beautiful illustrations children will appreciate.

Grandma has dementia can be a scary & confusing statement for kids. My Grandma had vascular dementia, and despite being an adult, it was very troubling to know how best to deal with her. To be honest, it could be a little scary at times. She wasn't the warm and loving Grandmother I knew when I was a kid.

Teaching children what dementia is and how to live with someone experiencing the disease is becoming more critical. For young kids, grandma having dementia can be a frightening thing. Fear can turn into spending less time with the loved one – I'm sure you can visualize the negative spiral this can cause.

Thankfully, more books are becoming available for kids to help them understand what is happening. “My Grandma Has Dementia” is a brand new book published this year (2021) that is one part educational tool, one part beautiful tribute.
